GMU Research Day: The Gut-Diet-Mind Relationship

At Gulf Medical University Research Day on 22 May 2026, Afraa Asfaque co-presented an original poster titled “The Gut-Diet-Mind Relationship: A Cross-Sectional Study Among Adults in the UAE.” The academic presentation examined links between diet, gut health, and mental well-being in a UAE adult population. Preparing and discussing the poster placed Afraa within GMU's research community, strengthened her experience communicating a cross-sectional study to an academic audience, and demonstrated how locally relevant evidence can inform broader conversations about preventive health.

SGH Neuroscience Conference 2026

Afraa Asfaque attended the Saudi German Hospital Neuroscience Conference on 24 April 2026 and earned six continuing medical education credit points. The conference setting brought together clinical teaching and current discussion in neuroscience, giving the Gulf Medical University medical student structured exposure to specialist perspectives beyond the standard curriculum. Good Clinical Practice Certification: NIDA Clinical Trials Network

On 23 April 2026, Afraa Asfaque completed the six-hour Good Clinical Practice course offered through the NIDA Clinical Trials Network. The training covered research ethics, informed consent, participant protection, and the responsible conduct of clinical trials. GMU Research Day

Afraa Asfaque attended Gulf Medical University's two-day Research Day on 15 and 16 April 2025. Across student and faculty presentations, she engaged with the range of research questions, methods, and academic communication taking place within GMU's health-sciences community. The experience helped her observe how projects move from inquiry to presentation, one year before she returned to GMU Research Day as a poster co-presenter.
